The 3rd edition of Cannes International Series Festival - Canneseries has awarded its principal prize to the Swedish production Partisan. Created by Amir Chamdin and Fares Fares (who also leads the cast) based upon an original idea by Mauricio Molinari, the series which also stars Johan Rheborg, Sofia Karemyr and Anna Björk recounts the misadventures of Johnny as he enters Jordnära, an idyllic gated community that runs a very successful organic farm, as their new truck driver. He gets to know Nicole and Maria, two foster children who are spending the summer there. He soon starts to suspect trafficking. The more Johnny's concern for the girls grows, the more focus they take from his main mission. Who is he and what is his true agenda? Production was steered by Johanna Wennerberg on behalf of Warner Bros. International Television Production Sweden, with an initial broadcast planned on Viaplay. Sales are in the hands of French group Federation Entertainment.

Also stealing focus on the winners’ list is the French-Belgian series Moloch, which walked away with the Best Screenplay trophy, specifically awarded to Arnaud Malherbe and Marion Festraëts. Directed by the former, the series includes Olivier Gourmet, Marine Vacth, Marc Zinga, Arnaud Valois, Alice Verset and Oliver Bodart among its cast and unfolds within an industrial and labyrinthine seaside town where strangers inexplicably burst into flames. Suicides? Homicides? Supernatural phenomena? Young, ambitious yet somewhat unstable journalist Louise will take charge of the investigation, in league with the brilliant psychiatrist Gabriel, who is mourning the loss of his son… Production was overseen by CALT Studio alongside ARTE France and in collaboration with Belga Productions, whilst sales are in the hands of French firm Mediawan.

Equally noteworthy is the Special Performance Prize for the entire cast of a series, awarded to the Belgian-Dutch co-production Red Light by Wouter Bouvijn and Anke Blondé. Created by Halina Rejn, Carice van Houten and Frank Ketelaar (read our interview), the series follows three women who find themselves trapped in the world of human trafficking and prostitution upon the sudden disappearance of Esther’s husband. Hailing from wholly different backgrounds, these women will need to rely on one another in order to escape the trap they’ve fallen into… Produced by Eyework, Holland Licht and Man Up, this series is sold by Federation Entertainment.
