A week full of films, debates and events - namely seven feature films in competition, seven debates and ten international guests streaming live - are all on the agenda of Genoa’s 11th Nuovo Cinema Europa Festival, the international film gathering devoted to European first works and newcomer directors, which will this year unfold entirely online, between 12 and 18 December, as a result of COVID-19. Individual screenings will be held at predetermined times (5pm and 9pm), followed by live debates, in a festival which can be accessed free of charge, from anywhere in Italy, via the MYMovies website.

Jostling among the guests set to take part in the festival’s debates we find Slovakian director Andrej Kolenčík; Finnish filmmaker Maria Veijalainen alongside Suvi-Tuuli, the protagonist of her film; Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay, the director of the German title in the offing; Maria Lafi, who helmed the Greek film on the bill, and Stefan A Lukacs, who’s responsible for the Austrian work on the agenda, flanked by his lead actors Laurence Rupp and Anton Noori.

The international jury, which is set to hand out its own award, is composed of Finland’s Hilla Okkonen (a producer for the Helsinki International Film Festival - Love & Anarchy), Belgium’s Patrick Ridremont (a director who won acclaim in the fourth edition of Nuovo Cinema Europa with his first work Dead Man Talking [+lee también:

) and Italy’s Alice Spigno (a team member of the Ligurian initiative LAND – Local Audiovisual Network and Development), while the winners of the Audience Award and the UniGe Jury Prize are also scheduled to receive trophies, with the former jury invited to cast their votes once all the screenings are over, and the latter composed of students enrolled on the University of Genoa’s Film History and Criticism course.

Curated by the cultural association Profondità di Campo under the aegis of Angela Ferrari, the Nuovo Cinema Europa Festival is organised in league with the cultural institutions of Europe and with the support of both the Liguria region and the City of Genoa.
