“Do The Right Move": it’s with this slogan that the 14th edition of the international documentary showcase sponsored by Doc/it – The Association of Italian Documentary-Makers, IDS - Italian Doc Screenings Industry, is scheduled to kick off on 4 March, unspooling entirely online this year on account of Covid, and running until 6 March. “Making the right move first and foremost means finding the ideal co-production partner", explain the directors of IDS Industry Agnese Fontana and Stefania Casini, who go on to clarify that "this year’s edition is notably geared towards independent producers who, now more than ever before, offer a solution for overcoming the rapid changes imposed by the rise of OTTs and the transformation of linear broadcasters”.

Among the 12 selected Italian documentary projects in search of international co-producers, we find From Cold War to Green War by Anna Recalde Miranda, which explores the origins of violence against environmentalists, many of whom are murdered in South America; The Doorkeeper by Alessandro Stevanon, which observes Jerusalem through the astute and ironic eyes of the warden of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre Wajeeh Nuseibeh; The Crown Shyness [+lee también:

by Valentina Bertani, which follows two twins with a cognitive-behavioural disability during the summer in which they must sit their final high school exam, and Il posto - A Steady Job [+lee también:

by Mattia Colombo and Gianluca Matarrese, which paints a portrait of precarious lives spent searching for a steady job, before, during and after the Covid-19 health crisis, travelling from southern to northern Italy. Next we find Italiano vero by Davide Giorni and Alessandro Giordani, which looks to explain the extraordinary popularity of Toto Cutugno’s song “L’italiano” in the former Soviet Union countries; Paper Revolution by Lauren Anders Brown, which is an 8-episode docuseries examining sustainability, the environment, technology, design and art, through stories about people who dare to think outside the box, and; We Nomads by Paolo Nepi, which sees a fashionable Italian filmmaker who’s incapable of leading a settled life seeking answers in his DNA and ultimately discovering family origins in the nomadic African Tuareg tribe: the film portrays the director’s journey in search of his identity, which leads him as far as the arid expanses of the Sub-Saraharan desert.

Other events scheduled to take place within IDS Industry include Talk and Share sessions: a series of panel discussions revolving around the current situation for Italian and foreign documentaries, ranging from a debate on co-productions between Italy and Denmark (“What about Italian-Danish Documentary Co-Production?”) to another reflecting upon similarities and differences between Italian and European production (“Audiovisual Production in Europe and the Italian Anomaly: The Necessary Course of Action for Fair Competition”), and ultimately closing with the topic of new opportunities and trends in the Mediterranean for documentary production (“Focus Med: Eyes Wide Open To Opportunities”). Last but not least, “Apulia Audiovisual System” will present the opportunities that have been introduced by the Apulia Region in the documentary sphere.
