) received the prestigious Eurimages Co-production Development Award, valued at €20,000, for her project The Oblivion Theory as the jury comprising Portuguese producer Luís Urbano (O Som e a Fúria); Tine Klint, founder and managing director of Danish sales company LevelK; and Els Hendrix, who represents Germany on the Eurimages board of management. The jury “was really very impressed by the adaptation and relocation of José Eduardo Agualusa’ novel, into Gaza at the time of the First Palestinian Intifada” and were convinced by Jacir’s passion and vision for the story. The project is co-produced by Incognito Films (France) and One Two Films (Germany).

The ArteKino International Prize, valued at €6,000, went to Who Killed Narciso? by Paraguayan filmmaker Marcelo Martinessi (The Heiresses [+lee también:

), as was announced by Annamaria Lodato and Rémi Burah of ARTE France. In their justification, the jury mentioned: “The film would be an adaptation of a book, dealing with Martinessi’s own city back in the late 50s when it was controlled by a new military regime. The project revolves around a young man, who wants to challenge normality and bring an air of rebellion through rock and roll. It promises to be a film noir, without a single point of view or a single protagonist. Desire will be the engine that moves the narrative, silence will be the price to pay.” The project is produced by Sebastián Peña Escobar for the Asunción-based La Babosa Cine.

As for the Berlinale Talents, Kathi Bildhauer, the co-ordinator of the Talent Project Market, presented the VFF Talent Highlight Award, to the tune of €10,000, to the project Tropical Gothic by writer-director Isabel Sandoval from the Philippines, produced by Carlo Velayo for the US company 7107 Entertainment, as announced by Johanness Kreile, managing director of VFF. Finally, producers Alba Bosch Duran from Spain, for the project The Turtles by Belén Funes, and Jack Tarling from the UK, for the project Learning to Breathe Under Water by Rebekah Fortune, each received a nomination prize of €1,000.
