The Venice Film Festival Golden Lion winner Nomadland continues its award-winning journey through the awards season, having taken home Best Film, Director (Chloé Zhao), Leading Actress (Frances McDormand) and Cinematography (Joshua James Richards) at the BAFTAs.
On an evening when the awards were spread across the board, it was a good night for films set in America. Promising Young Woman landed Outstanding British Film and the Best Original Screenplay Award for writer-director Emerald Fennell. British actor Daniel Kaluuya won Best Supporting Actor for his turn as Black Panther Chairman Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah. Yuh-Jung Youn won Best Supporting Actress for the much-admired Minari. There were European winners for their work on Sound of Metal: Dane Mikkel EG Nielsen was rewarded for his editing, while Jaime Baksht, Nicolas Becker, Phillip Bladh, Carlos Cortés and Michelle Couttolenc were honoured for their work on the sound. Mank won the Award for Best Production Design, while Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was honoured for its costumes as well as its make-up and hair. There were also two accolades for Soul: Best Animation and Best Original Score. My Octopus Teacher won Best Documentary, and Christopher Nolan’s Tenet [+lee también:

Writer-director Remi Weekes received the Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for His House. In the most touching moment of the ceremony, Thomas Vinterberg dedicated the Best Film Not in the English Language Award to his daughter, Ida, who tragically died in a car accident in Belgium in 2019. Four days into the Another Round [+lee también:

The Special Award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema was presented to filmmaker Noel Clarke. The Fellowship, the highest honour the Academy can bestow, was introduced by Hugh Grant and presented to director Ang Lee. On the other end of the career spectrum, the EE Rising Star Award, voted for by the public, went to Bukky Bakray, star of Sarah Gavron’s Rocks [+lee también:
