Kids Kino Industry (KKI) is continuing its series of monthly Industry Talks with two webinars in the upcoming weeks that will feature conversations with creators of new content for young audiences, both for live-action and animated films, that are ready to be released. Kids Kino Industry is inviting not only filmmakers, but also distributors, marketing experts and other industry professionals to follow these discussions.

The first KKI Talks entitled “GROWING UP – new CEE Productions for a young audience” will be held on Monday 26 April from 15:00-16:00 CEST. Three projects hailing from Lithuania, Serbia and Poland will feature as case studies for this discussion that will explore the growth of productions for younger audiences in the region. More precisely, during the talk, the attendees will have access to exclusive previews of the live-action films A Butterfly’s Heart, directed by Inesa Kurklietytė, and How I Learned to Fly, by Radivoje Andrić, which will have their cinema releases later in the year. The major producers of the projects, Zivile Gallego, of Lithuania’s Fralita Films, and Maja Popović, from Belgrade-based Sense Production, will discuss their motivations, artistic choices, audience reach strategies and give a closer look behind the scenes of the whole development process. Also, Mikołaj Pokromski (Pokromski Studio) will present the Polish project Too Old for Fairy Tales that is currently in the pre-production stage. Film marketing expert Joanna Solecka, head of Alphapanda Warsaw, will discuss methods to expand audience reach, and the panel will be moderated by Cineuropa’s Ola Salwa.

One week later, on Monday 3 May 15:00-16:00 CEST, Kids Kino Industry teams up with the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film, Animation Production Days and the German initiative “Outstanding Films for Children”, to hold special KKI Talks dedicated to the animated feature film project The Last Whale Singer. Developed by Telescope Animation Studios, the project tells the epic story of a teenage humpback whale who must face his fears and summon a mystical song to save the oceans from destruction by a monstrous creature. The film is due to be released in 2024 and was the first animated project funded by the German initiative “Outstanding Films for Children” which specialises in the financing of original children’s films and is backed by public broadcasters, regional and national film funders and representatives of the film business and politicians.

The Last Whale Singer was written and directed by Reza Memari and produced by Maite Woköck, the CEOs of Telescope Animation Studios, who will share their insights and findings on the development and financing of this ambitious project, which in addition to the feature film also includes a TV series and a video game. The talk will be moderated by film producer Lilian Klages.

As in the previous KKI Talks, the participation to the webinars is free of charge and only a registration is needed at the Kids Kino Industry website with the possibility to sign up for any of the webinars in April and May.
