The eleventh edition of the Polish Days (15-17 August) was held during the 21st New Horizons International Film Festival. Co-organised with the Polish Film Institute in Wrocław, it concluded with the announcement of the award winners by head of industry Weronika Czołnowska. During special closed screenings, more than 150 guests from Poland and abroad watched the latest Polish projects at all stages of production, including completed films and fragments of films in post-production, as well as presentations of projects in development.

Regarding the Works-in-Progress section, Broys, the debut feature film by Marcin Filipowicz, was the recipient of the ColorOffOn Film Post-Production Award. According to the director’s statement, the project is an “intimate, black-and-white coming-of-age film, told from the point of view of a sensitive teenager, saturated with the atmosphere of youth and skateboarding.” Broys is produced by Ewa Jastrzębska and Jerzy Kapuściński for Munk Studio - Polish Filmmakers Association and Canal+, while IKH Pictures Promotion is handling its sales. The film is set to be finalised by spring and the prize will cover post-production expenses (excluding VFX) up to the value of PLN 15,000 (€3,500).

Woman on the Roof has also received the Screen International Award which includes coverage of the film’s life cycle. This latest project by Anna Jadowska (Wild Roses [+lee también:

) centres on a 60-year-old midwife who, armed with a kitchen knife, tries to rob a bank, and follows her path to rediscover herself and her life. The film is a Polish-French-Swedish co-production produced by Maria Blicharska for Donten & Lacroix Film and is slated for a 2022 release.

The Polish Film Institute scholarship for the EAVE 2022 Producers Workshop was given to Marta Szarzyńska of Kinhouse Studio and the PFI will cover the cost for the winner to attend the workshop.

Just before the Polish Days, the twelfth New Horizons Studio+ took place (12-15 August), in partnership with Creative Europe Desk Poland. After a series of workshops and lectures, emerging European directors and producers took part under the supervision of the following experts: David Pope (London Film Academy), Álvaro Vega (DobleSentido), sales agents: Katarzyna Siniarska (New Europe Film Sales), Isabel Ivars (Films Boutique) and Michael Arnon (Wolf Consultants).

The New Horizons Association / London Film Academy Main Award was bestowed upon the Romanian project Another Story of My Son by Adrian Silișteanu, produced by Anda Ionescu. The prize includes script consultancy sponsored by London Film Academy. Seasons, the new feature project by Polish director Michał Grzybowski (Beloved Neighbors) and produced by Maria Leźnicka received the Ale kino+ Television Channel Award, which is the Letter of Intent for TV distribution. Furthermore, Last Trip, directed by Berlin-based Syrian filmmaker Ziad Kalthoum (Taste of Cement [+lee también:

) and produced by Marta Golba-Naumann, received a Special Mention. Finally, the Pop Up Residency Visegrad was awarded to Magdalena Chmielewska for her project Mira’s Fire.
