The Baltic Pitching Forum (BPF), set to take place once again in Vilnius, will unspool from 7-9 October. This year’s programme will shine a spotlight on the emerging filmmaking talents from the Baltic and Nordic countries, and will feature a series of events for those participating on site as well as for professionals around the world, with some events open and available online for those who have pre-registered.

On 7 October, pitching expert Gabriele Brunnenmeyer will coach the selected participants on how to present their projects in her lecture “Go Out and Pitch!” It will focus on how to discover the most interesting elements to highlight during a pitch, how to put the relevant information together and how to share one’s creativity with a professional audience.

The annual BPF Panel will see the participation of Massimo D’Orzi (director, writer and producer, representative of the Torino Short Film Market, Italy), Laurent Crouzeix (coordinator of Euro Connection, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and Market), Ben Vandendaele (producer, sales agent and distributor, founder of Bekke Films and Radiator IP Sales), Emilie Dubois (producer and sales agent for Insolence Productions) and Sari Volanen (TV commissioning editor at Finnish pubcaster YLE). They will award two Baltic projects with the right to participate in the Euro Connection European Short Film Co-production Forum and the Torino Short Film Market’s pitching session “You Only Pitch Twice”.

Meanwhile, the Baltic Producers’ Jury will include Estonia’s Andreas Kask (producer, head of the Film Development department at Nafta Films), Latvia’s Ieva Ūbele (producer, founder of Baltic Balkan Productions) and Lithuania’s Marija Razgutė (producer, founder of M-Films). This jury will select the best short-film project and award it with the Baltic Producers’ MEDIA Award, consisting of a €1,000 cash prize.

On 8 October, the gathering will host the short-film pitching sessions, during which three projects (one from each country) from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, alongside three from this year’s guest country, Sweden, will be presented to a panel of industry professionals and the Baltic Producers’ Jury. The full list of selected projects can be found here.

On 9 October, Austėja Milvydaitė, head of the MEDIA Office at Creative Europe Desk Lithuania, will talk about new Creative Europe programme opportunities for the cultural and creative sectors in Europe, and will give a short overview of the new structure of the MEDIA strand and present its clusters in her lecture “MEDIA 2021-2027: What’s in There for Shorts?”

Next, Vandendaele will provide a focus on the mechanism of short-film sales and distribution, touching upon all aspects of what a sales agent and a distributor can do for the success of a film. It will feature case studies on his previously represented films that have been selected and awarded at multiple international festivals.

Later, at the panel event “Anatomy of Festival Programming. The Nordic and Baltic Landscape”,representatives of key international short-film festivals from the Nordic and Baltic countries will share vital information on how the programme comes together at their respective events. The speakers will include Per Fikse from the Minimalen Short Film Festival (Norway), Sigrid Hadenius from the Uppsala Short Film Festival (Sweden), Jukka-Pekka Laakso from the Tampere Film Festival (Finland), Laurence Boyce from PÖFF Shorts (Estonia) and Rimante Daugelaite from the Vilnius International Short Film Festival (Lithuania). The session is organised in collaboration with the Nordic-Baltic Shorts Network.

Finally, for those on site, shorts from BPF alumni will be screened, followed by a Q&A session. The programme will show five short films: the BPF 2016-winning Riga’s Lilac by Lizete Upīte, Anna HintsIce, Laurynas Bareiša’s By the Pool (BPF 2015 pitch winner), Robertas Nevecka’s Snow Shelter, and Raitis and Lauris Ābele’s Castratus the Boar.

Attendance is free of charge, but pre-registration is required. You can discover the full programme here, whilst the registration forms can be found here.

The initiative is organised by Lithuanian Shorts in partnership with the Riga International Film Festival, Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS, PÖFF Shorts and the Estonian Short Film Center ShortEst. It is supported by the Lithuanian Council for Culture, the Lithuanian Film Centre, the Sweden-Lithuania Cooperation Fund and the Audiovisual Works Copyright Association “AVAKA.” Other partners include the Nordisk Panorama Market, the Uppsala Short Film Festival, the Swedish Film Institute and the Creative Europe – MEDIA Desk offices in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
