Marian Quinn’s sophomore feature, Twig, has entered production in Ireland. The shoot, now under way in Dublin, will last a total of five weeks. Penned by Quinn herself, the picture promises to be a retelling of the Greek tragedy of Antigone. The news was first report by Screen International.

Before embarking on this effort, Quinn worked extensively as an actress and directed her debut feature, the coming-of-age flick 32A [+lee también:

). The movie is set in Dublin’s inner city, where an ancient city wall cordons off a neighbourhood that is rife with drugs. When the local crime lord, Leon (O’Byrne), vows to let her brother Paulie’s body rot in the street, Twig (Malone) sets out to do the right thing.

Speaking about the shoot, the director said: “We have an extraordinary cast and a crew at the top of their game. I couldn’t be happier to be back shooting this in Dublin now.”

Twig is being produced by Ruth Carter, of Ireland’s Blue Ink Films, and Tommy Weir for fellow Irish outfit Janey Pictures, with backing from Screen Ireland, BAI, RTÉ and Wildcard Distribution. Moreover, Wildcard Distribution will release the feature in Irish cinemas next year, and acquired the title from Blue Ink Films.
