Enzo d’Alò’s latest animated effort, titled A Greyhound of a Girl [+lee también:

ficha de la película], is set to premiere in the Generation Kplus strand of the 73^rd edition of the Berlinale (16-26 February – see the news). The Naples-born helmer is best known for his debut, How the Toys Saved Christmas (1996), his sophomore feature, based on The Story of a Seagull and the Cat Who Taught Her To Fly by Luis Sepúlveda, Lucky and Zorba (2001), and Momo, the Conquest of Time (2003).

d’Alò’s new feature, based on Roddy Doyle’s 2011 novel of the same name, was penned by the helmer himself together with Dave Ingham (the series Lucas the Spider and The Koala Brothers). In detail, A Greyhound of a Girl tells the story of Mary, an 11-year-old girl with an irrepressible passion for cooking. Her granny is the best: her pantry contains no instant meals, but plenty of recipes to savour. When she falls ill, Mary starts fearing the worst. In this journey spanning the generations, a family travels the bittersweet road of life together. The main cast includes Mia O’Connor, Charlene McKenna, Brendan Gleeson, Sharon Horgan and Rosaleen Linehan.

A Greyhound of a Girl is a co-production between seven European countries. It is being staged by Luxembourg’s Paul Thiltges Distributions, Italy’s Aliante, Irish-British studio Jam Media, the UK’s GOAG Productions, Latvia’s Rija Films, Estonia’s Amrion Production and Germany’s Fish Blowing Bubbles. Paul Thiltges Distributions also credits the work of Fabrique d’Images, Philophon Studios and Espera Productions in Luxembourg.

The project also received backing from bodies such as Film Fund Luxembourg, Eurimages, Screen Ireland, Regione Campania, the Toscana Film Commission, Northern Ireland Screen, the National Film Centre of Latvia, the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, the Estonian Film Institute, Italy’s Ministry of Culture and Irish pubcaster RTÉ. BiM Distribution is in charge of its Italian distribution, and GFM Animations oversees its world sales.
