LA RAISON DU PLUS FORT

by Patric Jean

synopsis

An excerpt from the official leaflet: sometimes instead of fighting against poverty, it is the poor you fight against. Europe : residential areas and miserable suburbs which draw no empathy. A factory closes and a prison is built. prison is built as soon as a factory closes. The poor, especially young people born from immigrants, frighten the rest of the population. This film goes through the looking glass and against all clichés, shows that humanity still exists in a street, a prison, a criminal court, that there, too, emotions and desires coexist with fear and despair. Far from presenting the pretty picture of a democratical Europe where everyone is given a chance, this film, shot in France and Belgium, is the expression of a critical, yet moving, approach of our society, with its violent and sordid sides. "What a strange century is ours ! What are we doing ? Have we lost our minds?"
