SLEEP FURIOUSLY

by Gideon Koppel

synopsis

A yellow van drives along a twisting road, on the gentle slopes of the Welsh countryside. It is a mobile library, driven by John Jones, on his monthly visit to Trefeuring. In the back of the van, borrowers discuss literature, time passing by, and life in their community. For the region is undergoing rapid changes: traditional small-scale agriculture is on the decline and the generation that grew up in the pre-mechanised world is dying out. What remains however is a firm feeling of belonging, a strong sense of solidarity between folk and deep attachment to the land. The seasons slowly run their course. In this part of the country, traditions and customs continue to influence everyday life: the dialect, religion, animal shows, sheep shearing, fêtes, the choir, music lessons…
