Today, 10 June, Bridging the Dragon’s first Sino-European project lab kicks off in Songjiang, Shanghai. Confirmed tutors for the four-day residential workshop include Shu Huan, currently one of the most successful Chinese scriptwriters and writer of Lost in Thailand, the first Chinese film that made more than $180 million at the box office, among others; Alex Jia, chief creative officer of the Shanghai New Culture Media Group, Luigi Ventriglia, tutor at TorinoFilmLab and scriptwriter of the Italian-Chinese co-production Everlasting Moments by Maurizio Sciarra, among others, and Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten, screenwriter and script consultant, also a regular collaborator of the TorinoFilmLab.

The tutors will support the attendees (a team of author and producer) on story structure, believability of the setting in relation with the other co-producing side and feasibility of the co-production.

Production experts include Xian Su from DMG Entertainment, Synnove Horsdal from Maipo Film, independent producer Chi Cheung Kwong, Dongrong Zhu from SMG Pictures, Leontine Petit from Lemming Film and Isabelle Glachant from Chinese Shadows. Among other topics, the production experts will compare the financing and shooting systems in China and Europe and discuss the different ways of storytelling.

The ten selected projects (five European, five Chinese) shall be developed to appeal to both markets and to overcome cultural, language and market differences. Together with SIFF Project, Bridging the Dragon will also host a Sino-European Producers’ Networking Party on 15 June during the Shanghai International Film Festival. Bridging the Dragon will take advantage of the SIFF Project & Market to facilitate additional contacts and individual meetings for its project holders with Chinese and European key industry players. The second part of the project lab will take place on 4-7 August during the Locarno Film Festival.
