Part of the process of bridging the European and Chinese film industry is finding content that can appeal to both markets and overcome cultural, language and market differences. With this in mind, the Sino-European producers’ association Bridging the Dragon organises its second Sino-European Project Lab. The programme will consist of two four-day residential workshops before the next Beijing and Venice Film Festivals. Six European and six Chinese film projects suitable for co-production or co-financing will be invited for the Lab. Writing and packaging tutors such as Lu Wei, renowned screenwriter of Farewell My Concubine, To Live and Tuya’s Marriage, among others, Alex Jia of Shanghai New Culture Media Group, Marilyn Milgrom, script consultant of the BFI, Kate Leys, former head of development at Film4, Rikke Ennis of TrustNordisk/Zentropa China, Ulf Israel of Senator Film Produktion, Mercy Liao of Universal Pictures International, Emilie Blezat of Studiocanal China, Natacha Devillers of China Blue Films and Shan Dongbing of Donwa Pictures, among others, will support the attendees on story structure, believability of the setting in relationship to the other co-producing side, feasibility of the co-production. The projects selected for the Lab express a variety of genres and provenience but they have in common a strong positioning on the current market.
