With two of its titles in the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival, German sales agent Beta Cinema is unfurling a powerful line-up. Spearheading the slate is the poetic love story The Gentle Indifference of the World [+lire aussi :

 by Kazakh director Adilkhan Yerzhanov (The Owners), which is being presented in the Un Certain Regard section. Beautifully photographed by DoP Aidar Sharip, the story revolves around a young and beautiful villager and her loyal but penniless admirer, who make their way to the cruel city in an attempt to save her mother from jail. 2014 Berlinale Talents participant Adilkhan Yerzhanov transports his characters, who are used to the vastness of the Kazakh Steppe, into the merciless heart of a city, where profits and money are king.

The film tackles the burning issue of environmental degradation through the struggle of a woman, who, against all odds and against even her entire community, decides to go on a lone mission to preserve nature and protect the highlands. She is prepared to risk everything – until an orphan unexpectedly enters her life. Erlingsson is also well known as an actor, theatre director and documentarian, and received more than 20 awards for his directorial debut, Of Horses and Men.
