Slovenian writer-director and genre filmmaking maverick Tomaž Gorkič started shooting his sophomore feature, The Curse of Valburga (Prekletsrvo Valburge), on 25 July. Principal photography will take place on location in Ljubljana, Medno and Žalec, in Slovenia, until 16 August, while the premiere is planned for April next year. 

Privately financed and independently co-produced by the companies Strup produkcija and 666 ProductionsThe Curse of Valburga is marketed as a “politically incorrect dark comedy” that draws its inspiration from late 1970s/early 1980s slasher movies. Gorkič’s debut feature, Idyll, is labelled as the first full-blooded Slovenian horror. It won several awards internationally and nationally, including four Vesnas (the national cinema prizes) for Best Film, Best Supporting Actor (Jurij Drevenšek), Best Supporting Actress (Nika Rozman) and Best Production Design. It was distributed in the United States and Canada by Artsploitation Films under the alternative title Killbillies.
