Described as a “disturbing existential wake-up call”, Suicide Tourist follows Max Isaksen (Coster-Waldau), an insurance claims adjuster who is investigating the disappearance of a married man named Arthur. The trail will lead him to the Aurora Hotel, a remote, secretive luxury resort that has a particular speciality: assisting its guests to fulfil their fantasy suicides. Going through his own existential crisis, Max proceeds to question his own life, death and his perception of reality, as he comes to understand that suicide might be his only way to escape from the hotel. Novotny plays Max’s wife, Lærke, while the rest of the cast includes Sobjørg Højfeldt (Ride Upon the Storm), Robert Aramayo (Game of Thrones), Kaya Wilkins (Thelma [+lire aussi :

The script is based on a book by Rasmus Birch, who also penned When Animals Dream, while Arnby is again teaming up with director of photography Niels Thastum and composer Mikkel Hess. The crew includes editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis (The Lobster [+lire aussi :

). The film is shooting in Western Norway, Trollhättan in Sweden, and Berlin, and is slated to wrap later in November.

Suicide Tourist is being co-produced by Eva Jacobsen, Mikkel Jersin and Katrin Pors for Copenhagen-based Snowglobe with Germany’s DCM, Norway’s Mer Film, France’s Charades, and Sweden’s Film i Väst and Garagefilm International. It is supported by the Danish Film Institute, DR, the Norwegian Film Institute, Zefyr, the Swedish Film Institute, SVT, Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, DFFF, ZDF/Arte, the Creative Europe MEDIA programme and Eurimages. French firm Charades handles the international sales, and the film is due to be delivered by spring 2019, for a local theatrical release on 21 November 2019.
