fiche film]), and produced by Fandango, the fantasy genre series consists of six episodes which will be available to view on Netflix - in the 190 countries where the platform operates - from the beginning of 2020.

Based on Tiziana Triana’s novel intitled “Le città perdute. Luna nera” [The Lost Cities. Black Moon], the first volume in a trilogy, which is due to hit bookshops in November this year via Italian publishers Sonzogno Editore, the writing of the film was also taken on by three women: Francesca Manieri (Il miracolo), Laura Paolucci (My Brilliant Friend [+lire aussi :

fiche film]), who were helped by the original author herself. The action unfolds in Italy, in the 17th century. Following the death of a newborn, Ade, a 16-year-old midwife is accused of witchcraft. Having taken refuge in a mysterious community of women set on the edge of the woods, the girl is forced to make a choice: she can either pursue her impossible love for Pietro – the son of the witchhunters’ (or the Benandanti’s) leader – or fulfil her true destiny and pose a threat to the world in which she lives; a world caught between reason and mysticism.

Starring in the cast of the series are Antonia Fotaras (Ade), Giada Gagliardi (Valente), Adalgisa Manfrida (Persepolis), Manuela Mandracchia (Tebe), Lucrezia Guidone (Leptis), Federica Fracassi (Janara), Barbara Ronchi (Antalia), Giorgio Belli (Pietro) and Gloria Carovana (Cesaria). It also features Giandomenico Cupaiolo (Sante), Filippo Scotti (Spirto), Gianmarco Vettori (Nicola), Aliosha Massine (Benedetto), Nathan Macchioni (Adriano), Roberto De Francesco (Marzio Oreggi), Emili Mastrantoni (Ade as a child), Astrid Meloni (Amelia), Daniele Amendola (Giambattista), Marilena Anniballi (Agnese) and Mariano Pirrello (the Roman professor).

Filming for Black Moon lasted a total 16 weeks and took place in the Cinecittà studios – where the 17th century sets were reconstructed – and in various other locations across the Lazio region, including the Castle of Montecalvello which belonged to the French painter Balthus in the 1960s.
