The art world and the underworld collide in this neo-noir thriller, set in Italy in the present day. Irresistibly charismatic art critic James Figueras (Claes Bang) hooks up with provocative and alluring fellow American Berenice Hollis (Elizabeth Debicki). The new lovers travel to the lavish and opulent Lake Como estate of powerful art collector Cassidy (Mick Jagger). Their host reveals that he is the patron of Jerome Debney (Donald Sutherland), a kind of reclusive JD Salinger of the art world, and he has a simple request: for James to steal a Debney masterpiece from the artist’s studio, whatever the cost. But as the couple spend time with the legendary Debney, they start to realise that nothing about the artist nor their mission is what it seems.

The Burnt Orange Heresy is the second feature to be helmed by Giuseppe Capotondi, following The Double Hour, a film that was presented in competition at the 66th Venice Film Festival in 2009 and which earned its lead, Kseniya Rappoport, the Volpi Cup for Best Actress. The Burnt Orange Heresy was produced by David Zander (MJZ), David Lancaster (Rumble Films) and William Horberg (Wonderful Films). Sienna Aquilini and Peter Touche served as executive producers. The movie is based on the novel by Charles Willeford, and the screenplay was penned by Scott B Smith. The DoP was David Ungaro, and the international sales have been entrusted to HanWay Films.
