The feature-length debut by Slovakian father-and-son duo Víťo and Richard Staviarsky, the low-budget romantic comedy Loli Paradička [+lire aussi :

After the second week since its release, the film has come in in second place in the top ten, after The Lion King. In total, Loli Paradička has so far sold 48,299 admissions, grossing €275,753 (the movie’s estimated budget was €175,000). As usual, the top 20 for the previous week was dominated by US imports, with the Czech dramedy The Lady Terrorist [+lire aussi :

Radio and Television Slovakia (one of the biggest co-producers of domestic projects – see the news) co-produced Loli Paradička, which recounts the bittersweet love story between an amputee salesman at a fairground and a girl who steals two of his Turkish delights. She starts working for him as a sales assistant in order to work off the debt, and they subsequently fall for each other. The story touches upon the topics of discrimination and racism. The picture won the Audience Award after its premiere at Art Film Fest in June (see the news).
The latest Slovakian film, Who’s Next? by Miro Drobný (see the news), has already launched a promotional campaign in preparation for what is hoped will be a strong opening weekend on 22-25 August. The triptych about the pitfalls of the online world and its repercussions on young adults will open in the highest number of domestic theatres ever – 85 – thus outperforming the current record holder, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (which was released in 82 theatres). Bontonfilm is distributing the film in Slovakia.
