The doc is set in Magnitogorsk, an industrial town in the heart of Russia, which lives in the shadow of its gigantic kombinat’s rusty smokestacks. Lena teaches salsa, one of the many activities organised by the kombinat. Sasha, a steel worker, finds in dancing a way to escape from the daily pressures of the steel plant. His brother, Guenia, and his wife have decided to leave the town and its permanent pollution, the cause of their daughter’s intellectual disability.
Tejedor, a journalist and film director focusing on social transition and utopias in Russia and the former Soviet republics, as he did in his previous film Mayskaya Street [+lire aussi :

All of this is taking place in a country that is retreating into itself at breakneck speed. I also want to highlight the solutions and the escape strategies that allow people to go on living in the face of adversity."
