DOK Leipzig has announced the selection of projects for the 16th edition of its DOK Co-Pro Market, which will take place online on 26 and 27 October. The 36 projects from 33 countries, chosen from among more than 300 applicants, are at the development stage and will be able to look for co-production and financing partners at the German event.

Many of the selected projects question the status quo in society, covering everything from climate change and its effects, protests, revolutions and stories from underrepresented communities, to love and sexuality, trauma and violence, the ways in which artists’ lives are shaped and how they find their identity, and sport and dance.

“Inequality, a lack of diversity and a lack of storytelling sovereignty have snapped into razor-sharp focus during this time of crisis, and we won’t be ignoring this in our programming,” says DOK Industry head Brigid O’Shea.

In this year's virtual version of the market, over 250 industry representatives will meet potential partners and 900 individual meetings will be organised across all time zones. In order to prepare the participants for the new situation in the most efficient way possible, there will be a workshop on online pitching prior to the DOK Co-Pro Market.

In addition to the individual meetings, the DOK Industry team will offer an accompanying online programme that will open up space for discussion and debate, and include events on the topics of distribution, co-production and co-financing.

As was the case last year, four awards will be presented to the best projects at the DOK Co-Pro Market: the €5,000 Prize from the Saxon State Minister for the Arts for an outstanding documentary film project by a woman director, the €1,000 Zonta Club Leipzig Elster Female Talent Development Prize scholarship, the €1,000 Development Prize from the European Women's Audiovisual Network for a project from the Circle Women Doc Accelerator training programme, and the $2,000 Current Time TV and DOK Co-Pro Development Prize for a project from Central and Eastern Europe.
