by Alessio Cremonini, which thrilled audiences when it opened the Orizzonti section of the 2018 Venice Film Festival, was the first Italian film to have been released simultaneously in cinemas and on Netflix. It was a decision made by the movie’s producer and distributor Lucky Red which caused a fair deal of controversy and protests among cinema operators, who found themselves deprived of viewers at an already critical time for the market. Exploring the final days of young Stefano Cucchi who died after being assaulted in a Roman prison, Cremonini’s film went on to receive numerous awards on account of its director and screenwriter but also owing to the extraordinary performance delivered by its lead actor Alessandro Borghi (Romulus & Remus – The First King [+lire aussi :

The Roman director is now back behind the camera, and has been for a week now, in the name of his third fiction feature film after Border and On My Skin, entitled Profeti, whose screenplay he is also responsible for in league with Monica Zapelli (One Hundred Steps, Red Like the Sky [+lire aussi :

). Profeti tells of the abduction of a journalist in the Middle East and her time in captivity. The film is scheduled to be shot in Apulia over a six-week period.

Cremonini has opted for Jasmine Trinca as his protagonist, an actress who previously played Stefano Cucchi’s sister Ilaria in On My Skin, who recently appeared in The Goddess of Fortune [+lire aussi :

and her first short film as a director Being My Mom (read interview), and who will be hitting the big screen again this year in Ildiko Enyedi’s The Story of My Wife. In Profeti, Trinca steps into the shoes of a journalist abducted in the Middle East and is shored up by Isabella Nefar (Waiting for the Barbarians [+lire aussi :

As per his previous work, Profeti is produced by Cinemaundici and Lucky Red, together with RAI Cinema, with the support of the Apulia Film Commission and the backing of the Italian Ministry for Culture’s Film and Audiovisual Department.
