The 19th Cyprus Film Days International Festival, the official competitive festival of Cyprus, is gearing up for its upcoming edition, which is planned to run with the physical presence of the audience from 16-24 April (see the news). The second edition of Dot.on.the.map Industry Days, the co-production, training and networking platform that constitutes an integral part of the festival, will be held online from 21-23 April.

Danae Stylianou, head of Dot.on.the.map, mentioned: “Dot.on.the.map Industry Days launched its inaugural edition amidst the start of the pandemic in 2020. One year later, and against all odds, we find ourselves in the same ‘virtual’ position: going digital remains the only way to continue bringing film professionals together and discovering new projects in development. At the same time, the digital world knows no physical borders or boundaries. Industry professionals from near and afar, from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, are joining us for this exciting, virtual second edition! Dot.on.the.map is becoming a connecting force, and our goal remains to encourage co-productions and cross-border collaboration, while putting Mediterranean talent in the spotlight.”

The organisers have chosen seven fiction feature-film projects at the development and financing stage, all hailing from the Mediterranean region. The participating directors will be tutored for the pitching sessions by Isabelle Fauvel (Initiative Film, France). The pitching session set to be held on 21 April will feature an audience of film professionals (producers, sales agents and film-festival representatives). Furthermore, a three-member jury, comprising Karlovy Vary artistic director Karel Och, producer Rula Nasser (Imaginarium Films, Jordan) and Austrian sales agent Sasha Wieser (EastWest Filmdistribution), will decide on the winners of this edition. The laureate of the Best Project Award will receive colour correction and DCP mastering services worth €11,000, courtesy of Full Moon Productions, and a cash prize of €500, offered by the Directors’ Guild of Cyprus, while another project will receive the Agora Networking Award, courtesy of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, which includes accommodation and a free market accreditation for the winning producer.

Furthermore, a series of events and master classes intended exclusively for industry professionals is being organised. Thursday 22 April is dedicated to information sessions, where representatives from the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth, Israel Cinema Project, Rabinovich Foundation and Italy’s MiBACT will present minority co-production opportunities, while a panel discussion with producers from the three countries will debate the dynamics and challenges of initiating co-productions in the Mediterranean. Later the same day, Cyprus’s audiovisual incentives and the various opportunities to invest in the country will be presented.
