(2016) was the opening title of IDFA 2016.

Commenting on his project, Hendrikx said: “One day I started to randomly film people on the street, in silence. I was looking for an adventure. Some years later I revisited the material. The tension and strange drama, the underlying power relation between the one behind and in front of the lens, and the opportunity to explore the medium of film itself made me decide to take the project on in a more serious manner. I believe the vast majority of documentaries are exploiting extraordinary subjects in ordinary forms. With this film, I simultaneously attempted to subvert that contemporary documentary formula.”

A Man and a Camera was produced by Hendrikx himself, Ena Sendijarević and Wouter Jansen for Aventura (the Netherlands) and Jasper Boon for boondocs (the Netherlands). The documentary's world sales have been entrusted to Austria's Square Eyes.
