On 17 April, the European Film Academy (EFA) held a special virtual conference on Zoom, entitled the Young Audience Summit. The initiative, attended by 78 participants aged between 12 and 16 from 25 different European countries, hosted the screenings of two award-winning shorts, Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson's Whale Valley and Una Gunjak's The Chicken, as well as a Q&A session with filmmaker, creative director and cinephile Pablo Maqueda.

The summit took place just before the 2021 edition of the EFA Young Audience Award, which once again presented three nominated films to young people across the continent (see the news).

The poll results reveal that 100% of the young respondents would like to see more European films; however, 64% say that they do not find it easy to get access to these titles. Specifically, 99% would like the film industry to make it easier for young people to access European films, and 87% said that they would be more likely to go to the cinema to watch European films if they watched these more regularly in a film club.

Next, 100% like the idea of a European Film Club, 100% would also like to watch and discuss films with young people from other European countries, and 97.2% believe that it is important for the European Film Club to be co-created by young people. In addition, 97.1% of young people believe that European cinema is an important way of creating a sense of European identity.

Finally, the participants gave the event an average score of 4.6 out of 5 when rating their enjoyment.
