The awards ceremony for the 18th edition of the Crossing Europe Film Festival Linz (1-6 June) took place last Saturday in the Ursulinensaal in the Upper Austrian Culture Quarter. Georgian director Dea Kulumbegashvili's Beginning [+lire aussi :

picked up the top prize in the Fiction Competition, from the jury consisting of Helene Christanell, Ágnes Kocsis and Visar Morina.

The Audience Award for Best Fiction Film was handed to Greek director Christos Nikou for Apples [+lire aussi :

. In the Documentary Competition, the award went to Her Mothers [+lire aussi :

by Hungary's Asia Dér and Sári Haragonics. It was given out by a jury comprising Christa Auderlitzky, Varja Močnik and Siegfried Ressel.

The YAAAS! Youth Jury, consisting of five teenagers from the BORG High Schol in Grieskirchen, opted for Force of Habit [+lire aussi :

, a collective work by seven Finnish women directors. In the Local Artist Competition, the three awards were given to 2551.01 by Norbert Pfaffenbichler, Swaying by Julia Windischbauer and Elena Wolff, and Arriving by Mohammad Reza Rasouli.

The emotional evening saw the festival audience and team say goodbye to Christine Dollhofer, who founded and led Crossing Europe for all of its 18 years. Starting in November, she will be heading the Vienna Film Fund.
