Lebanese filmmaker Abbe Hassan is now working on his feature debut, a drama entitled Exodus [+lire aussi :

. The new production, currently filming in Greece, comes after Hassan's producing work on A Hustle’s Diary [+lire aussi :

(2017) and the direction of several shorts such as Weird (2021), Gold (2018) and Men (2012).

The script, penned by the helmer himself along with Kristoffer Cras (who already collaborated with Hassan on some of his previous shorts), has been described as “a warm-hearted story of survival and friendship” and is inspired by the director’s own experience as a refugee who left war-torn Beirut for Sweden as a child. In particular, the film will follow young Amal fleeing Syria. In a Turkish harbour, she meets the refugee smuggler Sam. Amal wants to travel to Greece where her sisters are, and then join her parents in Sweden. The quick-witted but traumatised young girl and the older, jaded Sam travel together through Europe in search of freedom, gradually developing a father-daughter relationship that will mean both their survival and awakening. The lead roles will be played by Ashraf Barhom (Scales, The Curve [+lire aussi :

Exodus is being produced by Mattias Nohrborg, Anna-Clara Carlsten and Olle Wirenhed for Swedish studio B-Reel Films, the company behind recent hits such as the folk horror flick Midsommar and the documentary I Am Greta [+lire aussi :

. It is being co-produced by Film i Väst and SVT, and backed by the Nordisk Film & TV Fond. The drama will be released by TriArt in Sweden in March 2022.
