Leading Danish sales agent TrustNordisk has closed major territorial deals on John Andreas Andersen’s upcoming disaster flick The North Sea [+lire aussi :

, is currently finalising the post-production of his new effort. The news was first reported by Variety.

The story, penned by Andersen and Harald Rosenløw Eeg (The Quake, The Wave [+lire aussi :

) opens on Christmas Eve in 1969 as the Norwegian government announces that the country is home to the world’s largest offshore oil platform, following the discovery of the Ekofisk field. The finding marks a turning point in the history of Norway and kicks off an unprecedented financial adventure. In detail, the thriller explores the consequences of 50 years of offshore drilling by the Norwegian government. The main cast includes Kristine Kujath Thorp, Rolf Kristian Larsen, Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Bjørn Floberg and Anneke von der Lippe. Budgeted at €6.5 million, the feature was recently sold to Canada (Mongrel Media), Japan (Inter Film), South Korea (AtNine), Taiwan (Moviecloud), Hong Kong (Sundream Motion Pictures), Poland (Hagi Film), Former Yugoslavia (Cinemania), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Foxx Media Group), as well as India, Pakistan and Afghanistan (Impact Films). These deals add up the previous agreement sealed for the UK (Elysian Film Group), the DACH region (Koch Films), France (Mediawan), the Benelux (Just Licensing), Italy (Minerva Pictures Group), Spain (Mediaset Espana), Russia and the Baltic republics (VLG.FILM) and Latin America (California Filmes).

The North Sea is being produced by Martin Sundland, Catrin Gundersen and Therese Bøhn for Fantefilm. The domestic theatrical release is set for 29 October.
