This year, Academy members from all branches were invited to participate in this category's preliminary round of voting and had to meet a minimum viewing requirement to be eligible to vote in the category. In the nominations round, Academy members from all branches are invited to opt in to participate and must view all 15 shortlisted films to vote.

Some European talent is featured in the shortlists for the other categories, such as in the Documentary category, where Flee is also present (which could lead the film to repeat the feat of North Macedonia's Honeyland [+lire aussi :

Lastly, the Short Film categories are, as usual, brimming with European talent, with a Riz Ahmed-starring title directed by UK's Aneil Karia and the sensation from Belgian filmmaker Michiel Blanchart (whose US-produced, feature film version is already being produced - read news) leading the pack.

The ceremony will take place on 27 March, 2022.
