The 2022 Sundance Film Festival took place digitally from 20-30 January and announced its jury-selected winners and audience awards via Twitter at the weekend. The competition sections separate US films from the world sections and feature films from documentaries. This year, Sundance programmers selected 84 feature films and 59 shorts.

by Alejandro Loayza Grisi won the World Cinematic Dramatic Grand Jury Prize. The movie takes place in the Bolivian highlands, where an elderly Quechua couple have been living for years, but then a drought threatens their entire way of life. Juror Mohamed Hefzy said, “This beautifully shot first feature brings into focus the effect of climate change on the indigenous populations of South America.”

The Audience Award for World Cinema Dramatic went to Alli Haapasalo’s Finnish tale Girl Picture [+lire aussi :

, which follows three girls on the cusp of womanhood over the course of three consecutive Friday nights. The Directing Prize in this section went to Maryna Er Gorbach for her Ukrainian-Turkish co-production Klondike [+lire aussi :

. It tells the story of a Ukrainian family living on the Russian-Ukrainian border during wartime, who find themselves at the centre of an air-crash catastrophe on 17 July 2014.

won the World Cinema Documentary Grand Jury Prize. It's another film dealing with how climate change is having a dramatic effect on people’s lives. It follows two brothers in Delhi, trying to protect an endangered bird known as the Black Night. Juror Emile Bujès called it “poetic… An urgent political story while constructing a singular and loving portrait of protagonists resisting seemingly inevitable ecological disaster.”

The Brazilian-Danish-US documentary The Territory [+lire aussi :

won the Audience Award, with its director, Alex Pritz, also picking up the Special Jury Award: Documentary Craft. The Territory shows a young indigenous leader and his mentor fighting to protect an area of the Amazon rainforest. The section's Directing Prize went to Simon Lereng Wilmont for A House Made of Splinters [+lire aussi :
