Manuela and Rosario are two sisters who, after years of refusing to talk to each other because of a family secret, are unexpectedly reunited at their grandchildren’s birthday. The kids have managed to meet one another thanks to their minders Trini and Milagros, who are inseparable friends. When they discover the conflict that’s keeping the little ones apart, the meddlesome neighbours will make a clumsy, slightly zany but loving attempt to reconcile the two families. With both the screenwriting and directing taken care of by Marta Díaz de Lope Díaz, Good Manners boasts a cast consisting of Gloria Muñoz (Llueven vacas [+lire aussi :

“It’s a film that talks about family – not just blood ties, but also the family we choose and our friends. It also broaches the topic of women who have provided for their families and who have now been left all alone,” the director explained during the presentation she made in the “5 Minutes of Film” section (which screens as-yet unfinished titles) of the recent 25th Málaga Film Festival. The movie was shot last autumn on location in Barcelona, and it is currently nearing the end of post-production.

Meanwhile, during the same presentation in Málaga, producer Mercedes Gamero pointed out that the film also talks about “the role of grandparents, as childminders and substitutes for parents at various different times of life, and the team behind this film, made up chiefly of women, helped to establish this complicity both through its message and through its shoot”.

Marta Díaz de Lope Díaz was born on 14 February 1988 in Ronda, Málaga, and graduated from ESCAC with a specialisation in Directing in 2012. Her graduation work, the short film Y otro año, perdices, made in 2013, was selected for the Seminci in Valladolid, and scooped the Best Director Award at the Medina del Campo Film Festival and the Award for Best Andalusian Production at the Seville Andalesgai Festival.

Following the short film Los pestiños de mamá (2016), the filmmaker co-directed – alongside Carlos Alonso-Ojea and Dídac Cervera – the film Los inocentes and helmed various episodes of the series Brigada de fenómenos for Canal Sur. In 2018, she released her debut feature, Hopelessly Devout [+lire aussi :

, starring Gloria Muñoz, Pepa Aniorte and Carmen Flores (winner of the Silver Biznaga for Best Supporting Actress), which was presented in the official section of the Málaga Film Festival that year, snagging the Audience Award to boot (see the news).

Good Manners is an Escándalo Films, Atresmedia Cine and ESCAC Studio production. Its distribution will be handled by Warner Bros Pictures Spain.
