Newcastle-born filmmaker Neil Marshall, best known for titles such as The Descent [+lire aussi :

fiche film] (2005), Doomsday (2008), Hellboy (2019) and The Reckoning (2020), is now working on his new project, the action crime flick Duchess. The movie entered production three weeks ago and is now filming in Tenerife. The news was first reported by Variety.

The picture is set in the treacherous world of diamond smuggling. Charlotte Kirk (The Reckoning, Ocean’s 8) will play the titular role. Her part is described as “a tough, working-class, petty criminal who morphs into an anti-heroine to be reckoned with in a murky underworld.” Marshall and Kirk co-wrote the script. 

Alongside Kirk are Philip Winchester (Rogue, Undrafted), who portrays an international diamond smuggler who seduces her, Colm Meaney (The Commitments, the TV series Gangs of London), Colin Egglesfield (100 Days to Live, Backtrace), Bore Buka (the TV series Elite), Pau Poch ([Rec]² [+lire aussi :

fiche film]), Sean Pertwee (The Reckoning, the TV series Gotham) as well as newcomers Harvey Dean, Giada Falzoni and Mellissa Laycy. Spanish boxing champion Joana Pastrana will make a cameo appearance. The film is being lensed by DoP Simon Rowling (Legacy of Lies, I Am Vengeance), whilst stunts are coordinated by Urban Action, the firm behind the stunts of flicks such as Patrick Hughes’ Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard and Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission Impossible – Fallout.

Duchess is being staged by Emily Corcoran and Kristyna Sellnerova for British outfit Cork Films. Phil Rymer and Joe Simpson are serving as executive producers for Ashland Hill Media. Ashland Hill Media financed Marshall’s movie with Lipsync, Atlantic Screen, a group of private equity investors and the Canary Island’s tax credit. Ashland Hill Media is also in charge of its sales and distribution.
