On 5 and 6 October, the Ventana CineMad International Development and Co-Production Forum will hold its eighth edition at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, with audiovisual professionals invited from countries such as France, Germany, Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, Canada and the United States. Among them are Wild Bunch (France), Razor Film (Germany) and Snowglobe (Denmark), and TVE, Movistar Plus+, Atresmedia, Telecinco Cinema, Telemadrid, Latido, Filmax, Zeta Studios, The Mediapro Studio, Paramount International, Warner Bros Discovery, Boomerang TV, Secuoya Studios and Fremantle have confirmed their attendance.
“Ventana CineMad is a professional event for the audiovisual sector that we hold every year, where producers, distributors, sales agents, television broadcasters and platforms come together to learn about the selected projects and as a meeting point to discuss issues that concern us and improve these projects”, says Mario Madueño, president of AMA (Madrid Audiovisual Association) and event’s organiser.
In addition to the pitches for the selected projects (detailed at the end), the programme of this eighth edition will be completed with two round tables: on 6th October at 3:30pm there will be one on national and international tax incentives, moderated by Marian Fernández, president of the Association of Independent Production Companies of the Basque Country (Ibaia), with the participation of José Manuel Lizanda, head of the Inspection team of the Special Delegation of Catalonia of the State Tax Agency; Patricia Morillo, head of the culture, sport and entertainment department at Andersen; and Denis Pedregosa, from Babieka Films.
On the same day at 5pm, the second round table will be held, entitled "How has the transposition of the European Directive on Audiovisual Communication Services been implemented in each country?", where the General Law on Audiovisual Communication in Spain will be compared with that of other European countries. Gui de Mulder, producer of Zap Entertainment (USA), will moderate, and producers Edwina Liard, of Ikki Films, and Christiane Sommer, of Razor Film, will participate.
Professional accreditations to attend free of charge are open on the Ventana CineMad website. The Ventana CineMad International Development and Co-Production Forum and its Laboratory training programme are organised by AMA (Madrid Audiovisual Association), with the collaboration of PIAF and EGEDA, and with funding from ICAA and the European Union Next Generation EU.
During these days, the 16 projects selected from among the 117 registered will present their pitches and will compete for €60,000 in prizes, divided into four categories: animation, documentary (feature films and series), fiction series and fiction feature films. There will also be a €3,000 prize for the best pitch and each of the selected projects will receive a grant to be used to take the project internationally.
In addition to the new Ventana CineMad Laboratory training programme ("For three months we have worked with mentors on international financing and exploitation, marketing and communication", says Madueño), this year’s programme also includes collaboration with TorinoFilmLab Next 2023: one of the selected projects will participate in this international event.
Ventana CineMad has been held since 2015 with the aim of fostering the internationalisation of Madrid's audiovisual fabric and supporting the local and regional industry by promoting filming and audiovisual production.
