The exploration of contemporary European cinema which is at the heart of the 41st Bergamo Film Meeting event (running 11 – 19 March) will revolve around the work of French-Swiss director Ursula Meier and Belgian filmmaker Jaco Van Dormael, whose entire back catalogues are set to be presented in the Europe, Now! section of the festival.

fiche film], starring Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, in competition at the 2022 Berlin Film Festival, will be attending the festival from 13 to 15 March. The screening of Van Dormael’s work, meanwhile, is organised in collaboration with I Wonder Pictures, who will be premiering a restored version of Toto The Hero in Bergamo, which will be released in Italian cinemas on 17 April. This visionary director will be attending the festival between 15 and 18 March.

The Europe, Now! Film Industry Meetings (unspooling 13–14 March) are set to further enhance the line-up, consisting of two days geared towards sector professionals looking for networking opportunities and a platform for updates, as is a selection of graduate films from European film schools belonging to CILECT, chosen in collaboration with Milan’s Luchino Visconti Film School (Civica Scuola di Cinema Luchino Visconti).

The past few days have also seen the Bergamo Film Meeting announce a retrospective dedicated to the Polish actor and director Jerzy Stuhr, a talent much loved by auteurs such as Andrzej Wajda and Krzysztof Kieślowski. Stuhr, who, on 1 January, appeared in the first episode of Mój agent, the Polish version of the French series Call My Agent!, is also one of the lead characters in Nanni Moretti’s upcoming movie Il sol dell’avvenire [+lire aussi :

Last but not least, the festival will likewise be screening the entire filmography of Czech entertainer Michaela Pavlátová. These 25 titles, including shorts films and feature films, two of which are live action, reveal the poetics of the Prague-born director, characterised by a fast pace, black humour and elegant frame composition.
