In detail, the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF) and the German Motion Picture Fund (GMPF) awarded a total of €147.4 million in 2021, up €62.8 million on 2020 and €11.9 million on 2019, resulting in an almost five-fold increase in the initial outlay.

In 2021, the DFFF split €55 million among 89 new projects, including 66 fiction features, 21 documentaries and two animated features. Thirty-two of these were international co-productions. It also awarded €42.4 million in bursaries to service providers working on seven major international productions. Of these projects, John Wick: Chapter 4 received the grant of the biggest magnitude (€19.8 million). In total, DFFF funding generated over €465 million in local spend, almost five times its 2021 budget of €97.4 million. Moreover, the GMPF backed 19 series, including Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese’s much-anticipated new eight-episode mystery-drama show 1899 [+leggi anche:
