Copenhagen/New-York based sales company LevelK headed by Tine Klint announced yesterday in Cannes that US distributor Kino Lorber has acquired North American rights to Kim Morduant’s the multi-awarded drama The Rocket. The film had its market screening in Cannes on Thursday.

Mordaunt’s feature debut The Rocket (an Australian/Laos/Thai co-production) won the Crystal Bear award last February in Berlin for Best First Feature, plus the Amnesty International Award. It went on picking Tribeca’s top three narrative awards including Best Narrative Feature. Richard Lorber, Kino Lorber CEO said: "The Rocket’s first-class filmmaking delivers its rare sense of heart with breathtaking originality. Given its thrilling response during the Tribeca Film Festival, I’m certain that American audiences everywhere will fall in love with this uniquely beautiful and powerful film. We believe a Rocket like this can shoot as high as the Oscars." Tine Klint, LevelK CEO added: "We are extremely proud of The Rocket and thankful to Tribeca for helping us promoting the film. From the Scandinavian Terrace, 55 La Croisette in Cannes, LevelK is discussing two other titles screening at the market. John McKay’s UK comedy Not Another Happy Ending and Tale of a Forest - Finland’s most successful documentary film ever in Finnish cinemas. The company is also starting negotiations on three titles in post-production. Sepideh is a Danish documentary about an Iranian young girl who dreams of becoming an astronaut and rebels against her family’s traditions, the Australian film My Mistress stars French star Emmanuelle Béart and rising US actor Harrison Gilbertson as an unusual pair involved in a provocative love story, finally Sleepwalker is a Norwegian psychological drama by Brooklyn-based actress-turned director Mona Fastvold.
