The seventh edition of the (S8) Mostra de Cinema Periférico Festival will unspool from 1-5 June in A Coruña, under the banner “The new impressionists”. Over a century later, viewers at (S8) will be able to discover how a film is broken down into image fragments, which constantly toy with colour, movement and editing, through the perspectives of international filmmakers such as Canada’s Stephen Broomer, John Price, Alexandre Larose and Eva Kolcze, the USA’s Jodie Mack and Robert Todd, Argentina’s Pablo Mazzoloo, and the UK’s Charlotte Pryce. The event will also host the world premiere of the latest effort by French artist Jacques Perconte, Save My Heart from the World, which will be staged as a performance, conceived in conjunction with master of techno Jeff Mills.

Other big names in cutting-edge cinema will also attend the gathering, such as the USA’s Saul Levine and Martha Colburn, who specialise in diary and collage films, respectively, and the UK’s Nicky Hamlyn and William Raban, associated with the legendary London Filmmakers’ Co-op workshop. To accompany the main programme, there will also be guest programmes organised by the Brussels-based L’Âge d’Or festival, presented by its programmer, Olivier Dekegel, and by the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto, introduced by its managing director and filmmaker Robert Beavers.

Lastly, national talents in this field will populate the Sinais section, which will welcome as its special guests Galician director Xiana Gómez-Díaz and the projects Cinema e muller by Xisela Franco and Beli Martínez, and the short-film initiative Chanfaina Lab; added to this is a screening of the latest, award-winning movie by Andrés Duque, Oleg and the Rare Arts [+leggi anche:
