Arte France Cinéma’s (managed by Olivier Père) fifth selection committee of 2017 has decided to get involved in the co-production and pre-purchasing of four projects. Standing out among them is Le Daim, which will be the seventh feature by Quentin Dupieux, following Steak [+leggi anche:

Starring Ramzy Bediah and Leïla Bekhti, and teetering halfway between a war tale and a political thriller, his new film will depict the life of a hospital doctor immersed in an atmosphere of terror and violence during the Algerian Civil War in the 1990s, torn between his feelings for his partner exiled in France and his sense of duty. The production will be staged by Sarrazink and Les Films du Lendemain.

) and Clara Linhart, which will be an ensemble film offering multiple points of view within an upper-class Brazilian family, and which will unfold over the course of one day, 1 January 2003, as Brazil celebrates the historic inauguration of President Lula. Production duties will be handled by French outfit Damned Films, together with Brazil’s Pureza and Gamarosa.

Produced by Tanit Films (France), Nomadis Images (Tunisia) and Les Films du Fleuve (Belgium), the film will paint a portrait of a petty bourgeois couple who harbour high hopes for their only son, and who discover out of the blue that he has left for Syria. The father will set off on a trip to Turkey in an effort to locate his child and find answers to questions about his own life.
