In 1982, Pierre leaves the US and returns home to Mayenne, buying himself the most beautiful farm in the district – that of his father, Jacques. Over the course of the years, Pierre and his wife, Claire, move ever further down the path of intensive farming. They grow their business, they modernise, and they diversify their produce. But, hand in hand with the happy times spent making plans, revelling in a healthy workload, and living “the good life”, family-style, the couple must also contend with debt and inevitable exhaustion – the exhaustion of a man who must constantly innovate to make ends meet, and the exhaustion of a system which revering productivist values…

In the Name of the Land will be produced by Christophe Rossignon and Philip Boëffard for Nord-Ouest Films, and co-produced by France 2 Cinéma. It has been pre-sold to Canal+ and OCS, and has been awarded an advance on earnings by the CNC and is also supported by the French region, Pays de la Loire. The eight weeks set aside for filming will be divided into two phases: the first phase, in the surrounds of Laval (Mayenne) and in Sillé-le-Guillaume (Sarthe), will run until 20 July, while the second phase is set to take place in the November-December period. Distribution in France will be managed by Diaphana; international sales are under negotiation.
