The 3D Wire Animation, Video Game and New Media Market, headed up by José Luis Farias, kicks off in Segovia this Thursday, 4 October, and will continue until Sunday 7th. This is a very special edition of the event, as it will mark its tenth birthday, having now established itself as an essential meeting point for the animation, video-game and new-media sector. More than 100 projects will be introduced to 3D Wire attendees: around 1,000 professionals will be present at the gathering, where 33 short films have also been selected. Most notably, there will be sneak peeks of eagerly awaited productions, such as the Spanish feature D’Artacán y los tres mosqueperros, directed by Toni García and produced by Navarre-based outfit Apolo Films.

Ever since it was founded, 3D Wire, now a well-established Spanish-Portuguese event, has had a strong European and international dimension, and thus a total of nine European transmedia projects and 11 international web series have been selected. Among the former crop are the presentations of Protanopia and RRR 1, accompanied by their creator, André Bergs, and the project Madrid Noir: The Prologue, produced by British studio No Ghost, a story about a detective and a stray dog in 1930s Madrid. A total of 17 features, 18 short films, 29 animated series, 39 video games and three VR projects round off the selection.

The 3D Wire Fest, an animation festival being held in parallel with the other activities, will boast a total of 33 short films, broken down into 26 international and seven Spanish works. Productions from 15 Asian, American and European countries will be seeking to win the prizes handed out by both the jury and the audience, which grant direct access to the shortlist for the European Animation Emile Awards, Europe’s top animation prize. scheda film]) with The Death, Dad & Son, and US director Trevor Jimenez (who has worked for Pixar on several successful titles, like Coco and Finding Dory) with Weekends, but also prominent Spanish helmers, such as Goya nominee Diego Porral, with his Monsters Walking, and Khris Cembe (Movistar Plus+ Short Project Award at 3D Wire 2016), who will be unveiling Soy una tumba.

3D Wire Fest jury member Jose Miguel Ribeiro, from Portugal, will also be talking about his new work, the feature Nayola. This Praça Filmes production immerses the audience in Angola, as seen through the eyes of three generations of women: it’s a coming-of-age tale set in a country going through a huge transformation. Another of the features that will be revealed in more depth is MiBots, a co-production between Spain, the UK and the USA, staged by Wise Blue Studios. Currently at the pre-production stage, the movie already has a screenwriter confirmed, Rob Edwards (the man behind the scripts of the Disney productions The Princess and the Frog and Treasure Planet), who will be fleshing out an original idea by Spaniard Maxi Valero.
