After Karlovy Vary, the GoCritic! training programme for emerging film journalists and critics will next take place at the 30th Trieste Film Festival (18-25 January 2019).
The selected participants will have the chance to attend the first significant film gathering of the year, a compact and versatile event that has been the leading festival of Central and Eastern European cinema in Italy since 1989.
The gathering includes more than 100 fiction features, documentaries and short films hailing from at least 20 different countries, screening in three cinemas. Besides the most significant CEE films from the past year, all of which will be having their Italian premieres at Trieste, the festival also features a number of new Italian films, showcased in the section “Corso Salani Award”, dedicated to recent independent Italian cinema, both fiction and documentary, in search of national and international distribution. Numerous European and Italian filmmakers come to present their works and to talk to audiences and professionals in informal settings, which provides an excellent opportunity for interviews.
The participants will also get the chance to attend one of Europe's largest and most prominent industry events, When East Meets West, and become acquainted with the carefully selected upcoming feature and documentary projects, but also meet and network with industry professionals from all over Europe.
Moreover, Trieste is a beautiful and dynamic port city known for its history and important position between the East and the West. It offers a number of interesting museums and iconic sites, and of course, delicious food and excellent wine!
The workshop will be tutored by GoCritic! head of studies Vladan Petković and co-ordinated by project manager Marina Burić. It will take place for the first six days of the festival (18-23 January), and the articles produced at the workshop will be published on Cineuropa.org. The festival workshop will be followed by a period of online tutoring.
The deadline for applications is 20 November 2018 at midnight, Central European Time.
The programme is open to applicants over the age of 18 who have had at least one text about cinema published in print or online.
