After King Ordinary (2013), in which an ordinary German citizen was singled out by a marketing agency on account of his extraordinary normality, David Dietl is preparing another comedy with elements of satire about our contemporary society and the media, entitled Rate Your Date. It will tackle the trials and tribulations of dating, and the impossibility of love in these times of unlimited digital possibilities. The film, shot from mid-July to early September in Berlin and Munich, starring Alicia von Rittberg, Nilam Farooq, Marc Benjamin, Edin Hasanovic and Anke Engelke, amongst others, is now in post-production and will be released in Germany on 20 June 2019 by 20th Century Fox Germany.

Rate Your Date, scripted by the director together with Katharina Eyssen, starts off with dating junkie Teresa (Von Rittberg) and her best friend Patricia (Farooq) no longer wanting to have their hearts broken or constantly be forced to face unexpected surprises – but then they hit upon a brilliant idea for a dating app, after Teresa meets the neurotic computer nerd Anton (Benjamin) one evening. The app, set up as a business by start-up specialist and womaniser Paul (Hasanovic), starts dividing all of the users into categories such as #Crazybitch, #Sextremist and #Heartbreaker, but they soon realise that perhaps love cannot be pigeonholed so easily and logarithms won’t prevent a broken heart.

The film is being produced by Thomas Peter Friedl for The Amazing Film Company, in co-production with Seven Pictures Film and with the support of the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (€900,000) as well as the FFF Bayern (€400,000).
