Written by the director and Claire Barré and based on the novel by Hugo Boris, the film focuses on Virginie, Erik and Aristide, three Paris police officers who are forced to accept an unusual mission: to drive a stranger back to the border. On the way to the airport, Virginia realises that their prisoner risks death if he returns to his country. Faced with an unbearable decision, she tries to convince her colleagues to let him go. 

Discovered in the Cannes Critics' Week in 1993 with Love Affairs Usually End Badly, Anne Fontaine’s films have been selected to participate on the Croisette twice since (Augustine in the Un Certain Regard section in 1995 and Oh La La! [+leggi anche:

Produced by Jean-Louis Livi for F Comme Film and Philippe Carcassonne for Ciné@Night Shift was co-produced by France 2 CinémaFrance 3 Cinéma, Korokoro, the Belgian outfit Scope Pictures and Studiocanal, which is handling French distribution and international sales. Also pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature film received support from Sofica Cofinova and La Banque Postale Image, with nine weeks of filming due to take place in Paris and in the Île-de-France region with Yves Angelo (winner of a César Award in 1990, 1992 and 1994 and nominated seven times in total) on board as the director of photography.
