The Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) has announced the recipients of funding for the production of short and feature-length fiction and documentary films, as well as animated and experimental movies.

In the feature-length fiction category, the biggest winners were Goran Kulenović’s The Death of the Little Match Girl, based on the acclaimed novel by Zoran Ferić, about an investigation into the murder of a transgender person (produced by Livada produkcija); and Petar Orešković's Young Tesla and the Idea Poachers, which thrusts the eponymous scientist into a Harry Potter-style fantasy (staged by Jaako dobra produkcija). The projects received €512,514 (HRK 3.8 million) each.

, won a Europa Cinemas Label Special Mention at the 2016 Berlinale as well as 14 national Golden Arena awards, received €485,498 (HRK 3.6 million) for People Can't Fly, based on his own stage play and produced by Interfilm.

Dubravka Turić, whose shorts Belladonna (2015) and Cherries (2017) screened at Venice and Cannes, respectively, received €404,471 (HRK 3 million) for her feature-length debut, Traces (Kinorama).

Kristijan Milić, whose two films The Living and the Dead (2007) and Number 55 [+leggi anche:

(2014) won a combined total of 14 national Golden Arena awards, got €404,471 (HRK 3 million) for his new war thriller The Wrath of God (Eurofilm).

Veteran TV and film director Bruno Gamulin, who hasn't made a feature since 2001, was awarded €498,882 (HRK 3.7 million) for The Hill, based on the novel by Ivica Prtenjača and staged by Interfilm. Damir Čučić and Spiritus Movens applied for funding during post-production for Summerhouse, and were granted €26,961.

In the competition for feature-length documentary projects, Goran Dević, whose On the Water [+leggi anche:

won a Special Mention at last year's DOK Leipzig, got €67,419 (HRK 500,000) for What Is to Be Done (Petnaesta umjetnost), and Robert Tomić Zuber, known for the investigative documentaries Mila Seeking Senida and A Million Dollar Life, received €53,946 (HRK 400,000) for Slav(e)s (Jaako dobra produkcija). Our Children, an autobiographical documentary directed by one of the country's most highly acclaimed cinematographers, Silvestar Kolbas, has been awarded €47,208 (HRK 350,000) and is being staged by FactumKnjiževna groupie by Nikica Marović (Factum) secured €47,208. 

The projects that applied for funding during post-production were U mom svijetu, gdje mi je lijepo by Sladjana Lučić (Wolfgang i Dolly, €33,711), Glavu dole ruke na leđa by Stipo Majić (Amico Studio, €26,961) and Ti koja imaš nevinije ruke by Branko Pejnović (Društvo prijatelja prirodnih ljepota Slunja i Rastoka, €14,155).

The short fiction films that received support were Rasulo by Hani Domazet (Antitalent, €44,500), Mali Messi by Mladen Stanić (Zagreb Film, €43,145), Snjeguljica by Lana Barić (Zagreb Film, €40,448) and Ništa ja tebi ne govorim, samo kažem by Sanja Milardović (Castor Multimedia, €33,715). 

The funded short documentary films are Hassanovi ratovi by Robert Bubalo (Olimp produkcija, €40,448), Hrvatska zastava by Filip Filković (Kreativni sindikat, €25,617) and Brane by Ines Jokoš (Kreativni sindikat, €21,420).

The animated films that secured backing are Martijev otok by Mia Murat (3D2D Animatori, €62,694), Težnja by Krešimir Pernek (Zagreb Film, €57,987), Snjeguljica i sedam stupnjeva odrastanja by Mirela Ivanković Bielen (Luma Film, €33,714), Sjene by Dea Jagić (Kreativni sindikat, €33,714), Izlet by Ana Horvat (Luma Film, €24,270), Uloga by Darko Bakliža (Zagreb Film, €17,532) and More misli by Hana Tintor (Adriatic Animation, €13,485).

Finally, four experimental films were supported – namely, Polako nikuda by Damir Čučić (Hrvatski filmski savez, €22,926), Terra Incognita by Renata Poljak (REA, €21,577), Ovu sobu ostavite zakopanu by Iva Kraljević (Kreativni sindikat, €12,137) and Nazovimo ovaj dan toplim by Nika Pećarina (K-zona, €12,137).
