The 30th edition of the Romy Awards for Austrian TV and film productions, organised by the daily newspaper Kurier and public broadcaster ORF, was split into two separate stages, as is customary. The Academy Romys, handed out by a jury of specialised journalists, were distributed on 11 April, while the Audience Romys, the winners of which are chosen by the general public by means of internet voting, were awarded at a gala ceremony hosted by Mirjam Weichselbraun on Saturday evening, in the Hofburg Palace in Vienna.
The main honour went to Andreas Schmied’s comedy Love Machine, which tells the story of Georgy, a broke and homeless singer who decides to become a gigolo after losing his band mate and friend. Things get more complicated when Georgy falls in love with a driving instructor and feels under pressure to choose between love and his job. Meanwhile, Barbara Miller’s #Female Pleasure [+leggi anche:

Based on an autobiographical novel by German comedian Hape Kerkeling, and set in 1972 in a West German coal- and iron-mining area, the film centres on chubby nine-year-old Hans-Peter, who has a talent for making others laugh. However, dark shadows start looming over the boy’s everyday life as his mother becomes more and more depressed after an operation.
Furthermore, the Award for Most Promising Actress went to L’Animale [+leggi anche:
