Europa Creativa MEDIA annuncia i suoi eventi a Cannes

Questo articolo è disponibile in inglese.

The MEDIA sub-programme of Creative Europe will once again have an active presence at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival. As is customary, the Creative Europe MEDIA stand will serve as a meeting point and a hub for all of the film professionals who will be attending Cannes’ Marché du Film (14-23 May). In parallel, a series of events and conferences are being organised for virtually the entire duration of the market, and each day will be dedicated to a different key topic. All of the discussions and events are happening at the MEDIA stand, unless stated otherwise, and every day at 6 pm, film professionals are invited to a Meet & Greet networking cocktail.

In detail, on Friday 17 May, MEDIA will “go global” and, in partnership with European Film Promotion, is organising the presentation “Helping Professionals Reach New Markets”, to be held at 11 am. In the afternoon, at 5 pm, in conjunction with Cineuropa, the Goethe-Institut and the Institut Français, the panel "European Film Festivals: Sharing the Love for Films With Global Audiences" will present the “Support to European Film Festivals” initiative in order to investigate how cultural diplomacy can contribute to fostering intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding all over the world.

The second day, Saturday 18 May, is dedicated to “Policy and Data”. At 10 am, the key topic will be “European Authors’ Remuneration – Where do We Stand?”, while the evening panel at 5 pm will consist of a presentation organised by the European Audiovisual Observatory on the newly launched online platform LUMIERE VOD, which you can read more about here.

The weekend will wrap with a focus on “Women on the Move”, as at 10 am on Sunday 19 May, Catalan writer-director Carla Simón will be in conversation, talking about her debut film, Summer 1993 [+leggi anche:

). At 3.30 pm, Collectif 50/50, in association with MEDIA, is organising the discussion “Gender Parity Pledge - Where Are We One Year Later?”, and at 5 pm, the topic will be explored in greater detail via the presentation “Industry Responses to Better Gender Balance”.

On Monday 20 May, MEDIA is “looking for talent”, starting the day at the MEDIA stand at 10 am with “Copyright Conundrum”, a chat with Giuseppe Abbamonte, director of Media Policy at the European Commission, moderated by Marjorie Paillon. Later on, proceedings will move away from the stand, as the Palais des Festivals is due to host the subsequent events. At 11.15 am, on the Terrasse du Festival, the panel discussion “Audiovisual Markets: Trends & Investments” will home in on the economic outlook for the audiovisual and creative sectors, and the panel will again be moderated by Marjorie Paillon. Remaining at the Palais des Festivals, at 3 pm, the European Film Forum will be held in the Salon des Ambassadeurs, and MEDIA will get involved in the discussion under the topic “A Europe of Talents – Empowering Creativity”. The day will be concluded with a 6 pm networking cocktail, again at the Palais des Festivals.

On Tuesday 21 May, MEDIA will meet tech: at 10 am, representatives of the NutAlone digital platform for distributing and viewing indie films will go into detail about how a new marketplace can unlock access to European independent films, while at 5 pm, MEDIA will place CannesXR in the spotlight. The new initiative is intended to be a community-based marketplace orientated towards B2B networking, and to serve as a lynchpin for the XR ecosystem on an international scale, through a programme fully dedicated to immersive technologies and entertainment. See the news for further details.

The final day of events, Wednesday 22 May, will be dedicated to the past and “Monetising Heritage”, as at 10 am, a conversation with Juliette Rajon, of the Institut Lumière, and Sandra den Hamer, director of the Netherlands’ EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, will investigate whether “Classic Films Get Better With Time”.
