(nominated for the César Award for Best First Film in 2017, and which earned Niels Schneider the César Award for Most Promising Actor), will be pre-sold at Berlin based on a promo-reel. The story, written by the director together with Vincent Poymiro, kicks off in Japan in 1944. Trained for intelligence work, 22-year-old Hiroo Onoda discovers a philosophy that runs contrary to the official guidelines: no suicide, stay alive whatever happens, and the mission is more important than anything else. Sent to Lubang, a small island in the Philippines where the Americans are about to land, his role will be to wage a guerrilla war until the return of the Japanese troops. The Empire will surrender soon after, and Onoda 10,000 days later. Starring Yuya Endo, Yuya Matsuura and Shinsuke Kato, among others, the film (which has been shot in Japanese) was staged by France, via bathysphere (Nicolas Anthomé), and was co-produced by To Be Continued and Arte France Cinéma, Germany’s Pandora, Belgium’s Frakas, Italy’s Ascent Film and Rai Cinema, and Japan’s Chipangu. It was supported by Eurimages, the CNC’s World Cinema Support, the French-German Mini-coproduction Treaty, Canal+, Ciné+, NRW, Belgacom, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and Italy’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, among other institutions.

At the EFM, Le Pacte will also be getting started with the pre-sales for Tokyo Shaking by Olivier Peyon.

A promo-reel will also be shown for Atomic Summer by Gaël Lépingle, a French feature debut (also produced by bathysphere) now in post-production, and starring Shaïn Boumedine (Mektoub, My Love [+leggi anche:

), Carmen Kassovitz, Théo Augier, Constantin Vidal and Manon Valentin. The plot revolves around Victor, who is in his early twenties, works at the local town hall and lives with his girlfriend Charlotte, who is expecting their first child. But then there is an incident at the nearby power plant…

Another market screening worth mentioning among those being organised by Le Pacte at Berlin is that of Citizens of the World by Italy’s Gianni di Gregorio.
