In tandem with the Institute of Film and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) (which reports to the Ministry of Culture and Sport) and the streaming platform Netflix, the Association of Female Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA) has got the ball rolling on the first edition of CIMA IMPULSA, which is intended to facilitate women’s access to the audiovisual industry. This consultancy and training programme seeks to supercharge the professional careers of screenwriters, directors and producers (experienced ones as well as newcomers) of both films and TV series. It is designed to help the participants improve their film and audiovisual projects in order to enhance their presentability and marketability.

Registration of said projects (be they fiction or documentary features, or fiction or documentary series) must be done via the CIMA website (where the terms and conditions of the call are outlined in detail) before 2 pm on 18 June 2020. Three committees of experts will select ten projects for this edition. Cristina Andreu, the president of the Association of Female Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media, stated, “We couldn’t be happier to introduce our CIMA IMPULSA programme, a project that promotes the development of film scripts penned by women, supported by female producers, thus facilitating their access to the industry. The world’s citizens will be better off if society can become acquainted with women’s point of view. And at the moment, the audiovisual field is the best source of knowledge. Thanks to programmes such as this, gender equality will soon be a reality.”

For its part, the ICAA will call on those in charge of film and television production companies to access and consider the projects being developed and will facilitate their presentations in forums and audiovisual markets. ICAA general manager Beatriz Navas commented: "The more role models there are to inspire women, the more women will create audiovisual works. IMPULSA will be like a seedbed in this sense. The programme will contribute to the story of our time – an era brimming with audiovisual works – taking into account the perception of a higher number of women as they examine the various tensions in our world. This research and these films, series, comedies, dramas and reveries will enrich our society enormously."

Furthermore, Netflix will have the opportunity to select up to three of the participants (who intend to direct their own screenplay) to form part of its Female Director Shadowing Program. Verónica Fernández, the platform’s head of Original Content, added: “We’re very proud to be partnering with projects like CIMA IMPULSA, which allow us to progress towards achieving a more inclusive, equal and diverse industry. Fostering female talent is essential in order for more and more people to see themselves reflected on the screen, and we hope that this initiative encourages more women to tell their stories.”
