The team behind the feature-length debut documentary by Colombian director Carlos E Lesmes, A Loss of Something Ever Felt [+leggi anche:
scheda film], has released an exclusive first-look trailer and poster just a few hours before it is set to world-premiere online at the postponed Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival on 28 May.
In the film, Eeva enters the underground world of Bogotá, Colombia, under pressure from her mother to find her estranged brother, Lauri. While her mum waits for daily updates back home in Estonia, Eeva navigates Lauri’s dark world – she is determined to find this ghost who only lives in whispered rumours far beneath the city of 12 million.
“This film was born of a vital necessity. Eeva and her mother, Hille, had utterly clashed with the bureaucracy in their search, and realised that no authority in Estonia or Colombia would help them find Lauri, Eeva’s estranged brother. As a last resort, Eeva turned to her only Colombian acquaintance, Carlos E Lesmes, who had lived in Estonia for eight years, and together, the decision was made that when searching for Lauri on the streets of Bogotá, the process would be filmed,” explained the film’s producer, Liis Nimik.
“It is incredible to think that the first stop on the journey to the audience for our film is to be at Hot Docs; we are really happy to be able to share this story with their legendary Ontario audience. This is a story full of heart and soul, from the film’s characters as well as from those of us behind the camera, and we couldn’t be happier that the Hot Docs programming team felt the same,” said director and co-writer Lesmes.
A Loss of Something Ever Felt screens in the World Showcase section at Hot Docs and is available to stream from 28 May-10 June. The screening will include a pre-recorded Q&A. All festival films are geo-blocked to Ontario, Canada. From the moment each individual streaming session starts, audiences have 48 hours to watch the movie.
